Hi All, this is my first question in the game and would certainly like to post something which is of significant value (at least to myself)!

So I have decided on this particular one, because 9th August is the National Day of my country (Singapore).

Here goes:

On the 9th August,1958.. something BIG and Magnificent took place within one of Tintin's adventure.

The question is: What incident was due to happen on that day, and please quote evidence that the year was `1958`, along with your answer I would expect the book title(s) and page(s).

Happy Searching!

I think it might be in the book of the red sea sharks?

Unfortunately not.

However I shall include a hint here. The `object` in this incident, is Big, Magnificent, has a name, but not a living thing. As sensitive player may have noticed, I stated book & page as plural in my question, so you should be looking at adventures which run through 2 stories.

On August 9, 1958 the 'Big Dive' episode from 'Sea Hunt' was released, but is there any logical connection between that date and Tintin discovering the Unicorn, in Red Rackham Treasure, and with Rackham's 'sea hunt' after Sir Francis' battle ship, in The Secret of the Unicorn??

Yamilah although stated the correct book, did not point out the answer I have in mind.

So here goes the 2nd clue:

When I said 9 Aug 1958, it's a date reflected in one of the Tintin stories (thanks to Yamilah now we know which one), not a `real` date in reality. And yes, this `Big` thing is closely related to Sir Francis and his descendant.

Maybe that 1958's date features on the stolen wallet made of magnificent crocodile skin, in the English version of The Unicorn (p.59), the wallet with the scrolls?

It's the auction of Marlinspike Hall - Haddock's ancestral home - on Saturday 9th August by James Biddup and Co in Red Rackham's Treasure
Page 60 of my 3-in-1.
1958. Was it the year this was translated into English?

For the auction, the original version mentions Saturday 9th of August, but no year...

Ranko's answer of the auction of Marlinspike Hall is correct!

As for the year 1958, I gathered it from The Secret of The Unicorn p.189 (as in 3-in-1 Version).

There we see Tintin along with the Thom(p)sons, arrived at Mr. Aristides Silk's house, and arresting him for the crime of pick-pocketing.

From Mr. Silk's collections of "picked" wallets, we can see that he labelled them not only by name, but also the date of the theft. Some examples we see on the page are "Mr R.Biggs pinched on 20-5-58" and the famous Bird Brothers on "1-5-58".

At the end of this book, Tintin and the Captain annouced the beginning of the treasure hunt; as we then move into Red Rackham's Treasure, we find they are at sea in July, geting back to shore on 25 July. Although there is no obvious indication that all these happened within the same year, it is only logical that it did.

This is how I worked out the year 1958.
