I once read that professor Calculus was modeled on Bertrand Piccard's father. Has anyone else heard this?

If Bertrand Piccard is the son of Professor Auguste Piccard, then yes! ;-)

Actually, I just Googled it, and he is Auguste's grandson, not his son, so the original Calculus was his grandfather.

I found this caught me slightly on the hop, as Auguste P. was famous enough to me that I had heard about him at school, whereas the name of Bertrand P. was less well known to me, although his exploits have been more recent.

There was a bit of discussion about Auguste here.
