I expect a lot of you use wikipedia and are aware that it has an extensive entry on Tintin. It has recently been suggested that individual entries of characters such as General Alcazar or Dr. J. W. Müller be merged into just one article, taking out many of the details about their inspiration, development and personal history.

This means taking out a lot of hard work, not to mention many interesting facts. What are your views on this? If you have any, please join the discussion at List of The Adventures of Tintin characters.

I can't really say that it bothers me, to be honest.
I've had a look at the pages involved, and can't say I disagree with their policy that characters which only have significance as part of a franchise are grouped with the information on that franchise: it therefore seems reasonable to me that articles about Tintin characters become part of an umbrella article on Tintin in general.

That is as may be (and I am taking it from this that you are a contributor of some of these facts and information?), it still doesn't take away from the fact that any encyclopaedic work has to conform to a structure and have policies in place, especially when it is being assembled by so many people.

Apart from that, I'm happy just trying to make Tintinologist.org a good and interesting place to be, without trying to get involved in how other people handle information on another site.
