This is probably a daft question and one that has come from the strange thoughts that my brain has from time to time. I was wondering if Herge were still drawing Tintin today would he have given him his own mobile phone. As well as Newspaper clippings to keep the story moving we might have been looking at panels with text messages from Haddock perhaps?

Is the term "Orange phone" English slang for cellular phone?

Undoubtedly he would have given Tintin a mobile phone. Tintin after all was a product of his times.
Would make for some interesting comic layouts and situations, wouldn't it?

I've never heard of Orange Phone.

Orange is a telecoms company in the UK, and I took MrCutts's title to be a play on a Tintin title such as "Blue Oranges".

No, Orange are one of the telephone companies in the U.K. (and maybe elsewhere): it would only apply to one of their 'phones.

I can think of no reason why Tintin wouldn't use a mobile 'phone, as he uses everything onwards from morse-code keys, so a mobile would be a natural progression.

Yes Jock123 was right it was a play on a title such as Tintin and the Blue oranges.
Sorry if some people thought it was a title of a book or were otherwise confused in some way.

Yes, especially if he had to 'phone Professor Calculus!

For some odd and unknown reason, I think that by the time Haddock bought his mobile phone, Tintin would be really experted with the things, so whenever he and Archie have a conversation over text messaging, Haddock's replies would take forever because he's just getting used to the whole 'texting' thing, and Tintin's replies would be super quick, which would irritate Haddock and just be plain funny...

I know that's what it was like when i got my first mobile... everyone else was so quick!

I have a weird imagination ^^;

I don't know about Tintin with a phone...
I can imagine it though. After all, in "Picaros" Tintin has moved on. He isn't wearing his plus fours, and is riding a motor bike.
...But I don't really think Herge would give Tintin a phone. I think that if he was still writing Tintin he would keep Tintin the same as always, (or at least I would hope so).
If Tintin got a mobile phone, then what next?
Tintin with an mp3 player?
No.

Your right. I doubt Tintin would have time to listen to an mp3 player but I think he would have to have a mobile. He probably would be the only person in his fictious comic world without one otherwise.

If Tintin didn't have a mobile then Calculus would have all the gadgets. He invented colour TV, so why not the mobile.

Hey, by the time the cell phone comes out, they'd all be dead!
