I'm hoping someone here can help me. I had a book when I was younger that was handed down to me from my mum. We both loved this book, and although I don't specifically remember it being a Tintin book it was very similar, laid out in the same format, with a young boy, a white dog and a Captain Haddock type person. I can't find the book anymore and I've looked through all the Tintin books hoping it's one of them with no success. My vague memories of the book are of them going up a mountain with a donkey and a barrel, then they fly on the barrel through a mountain. There are Inca style pyramids and a golden idol.

Sorry for the vague information but it's all I can remember and it's been driving me mad for years!

Thanks for any help

Possibly "Prisoners of the Sun". Although there are no Inca pyramids, there is a scene where the Thompson twins appear before the Pyramids of Giza. There are no donkeys, but there are llamas. Villains who try to kidnap the boy in "Prisoners" do fall off the mountain, but Tintin and his friends do not have a fall like that (Tintin does fall into a waterfall, though). There is a golden idol in "Prisoners", though. I hope this helps.

Welcome, emily13!

Could it be Spike and Suzy: The Secret of the Incas, by Willy Vandersteen? It is very Tintinesque, and a good fun book.

As you don’t say where you are, you may know the characters as Suske and Wiske, Bob and Bobette, Finn and Fiffi, Lucius and Lucia etc., but I think that sounds like the one you want.

Hi, thanks for the replies! It's definitely not Prisoners of the Sun. I'll have to hunt down a copy of the Spike and Suzy one. I don't remember a girl in it but it was a long time ago!

Thanks for your help :)

Hi Emily,

I do not know how much alive is your memory about the adventure you are looking for. I have got some pirate adventures in my collection and one of these editions is Tintin in Mars (Tenten Merih de , Merih e Gidiyoruz) from 1966.
Tintin, Haddock, Calculus and Milou are rising to Mars from earth with a jeep. With a scene of Haddock with a man from Mars in a cellar full of barrels. A scene of competition of Tintin and Captain vs. knights from Mars. On the front page of this album Tintin, Captain, Milou and Thompsons fly themselves.
They are not the same scenes you described but you can check it. It was somewhere in my library or house, there is an another adventure Fairy Mountain. As I remember, there were a donkey and of course a mountain in it. I do not remember tintin flying with a barrel but if I am not wrong there was also an idol. I will look for that album again.
I did not think a name for it yet, it will have a name of tintininturkey.com or something like that;I think to have a site after finishing the all design. Now I already have got a site from angelfire about Tintin in Turkey (not professional yet, it needs a lot of arrangements, I must take some scans again and add more information). I sent some scans of Tintin in Mars I told you, to site. You can click on For Emily to see the scans.

To moderators; Absoletly making no kind of trade in my site, if tintinologist can get in trouble because of the link, please remove the link. Despite having scans of pirate editons in it, the site is only for information purpose.

Hi Celalli, I'm pretty sure it's not the Mars one, the Fairy Mountain one sounds quite promising though! Do let me know if there's any flying on barrels in it!

Hi Emily, I have found Tintin - Fairy Mountain adventure. There are idol, mountain and donkey in it but there is not a tintin flying with a barrel scene.

I honestly had no idea there were so many pirates. I'd heard of the usual suspects- Tintin in Thailand, Breaking Free- but not these ones.

It is now forbidden in Turkey to publish pirates of books and albums but in 1950 and 60 s, 8 pirate adventures of Tintin were published in Turkey.
It was also forbidden in those years but one of the Publication Houses published the pirates.

These adventures are ; Marmara Canavari (Marmara Monster) (Marmara; is the name of a district and a sea in Turkey), Ugursuz Film ( Ominous Movie ), Tenten Istanbul'da (Tintin in Istanbul), Yamyamlar AdasÄ° ( The Island of Cannibals ), Perili Dag ( Fairy Mountain ), Asilere Karsi ( Versus Rebellious ) , Esrarengiz Sirk (Mysterious Circus), Merihe Gidiyoruz (We are travelling to Merih (Mars))
